Mercer County commissioners opened bids Thursday for the demolition of three dilapidated buildings in Monte- zuma. Eight bids were submitted with the low bid arriving at $8,250. The low bid was by Roe Transportation of Sidney, and most of the bids were under the engineer's estimate of $15,000. Susan McKanna, Mercer County Development Office, said specifics of the low bid and Roe Transporta-tion's references would be checked before the bid was awarded. She will bring a formal recommendation to the commissioners at a later date. The demolition of these three buildings is the first part of a planned $1.25 million improvement project in Montezuma. The village currently has secured $650,000 in Community Development Block Grant money, which will be used for the demolition along with drainage, street and curb work. The village also has applied for another $500,000 grant.
