The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Jerome Schmit
Jerome Schmit, 92, a resident of VanCrest of Delphos, died there at 9:30 p.m. June 4, 2008.
He was born March 4, 1916, in Delphos, to Nicholas and Matilda Youngpeter Schmit. On June 20, 1946, he married Alice Lindemann who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Dr. James (Susan) of Celina, and Dr. Arthur (Mary Ann) of Grove City; a daughter, Elaine (Larry) Webb, Delphos; a sister, Viola Schmidt, and two brothers, Alfred and Robert, also of Delphos; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are two brothers, Rev. Earl and Rev. Art; two sisters, Mary Ella and Sister Mary Alfred; a brother-in-law, Eugene Schmidt; and a grandson.
He co-owned Schmit's Market in Delphos with his brothers for nearly 50 years and later worked part time for Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he was a communion distributer and past parish council member, the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts and the Delphos Club, all of Delphos. He was a former member of the Delphos Country Club, secretary for the Delphos Community Christmas Project, a volunteer firefighter for 19 years and a World War II veteran who served as a sergeant during World War II.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. George Maramkandom officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Calling is after 11:30 a.m. Monday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, until the time the service begins.
