The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Emma Thatcher
Emma Jean Thatcher, 76, of Elgin, died at 2 a.m. June 23, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born Jan. 10, 1932, in Adams County, Ind.. to John Lewis and Nellie Edith Click Switzer. On July 2, 1952, she married Stanley E. Thatcher, who died Feb. 27, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, John and Steve Thatcher, both of Elgin, and Dale (Kristy) Thatcher, Van Wert; a daughter Linda (Doug) Thomas, Celina; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Thatcher, Van Wert; a brother, Robert (Mary Lou) Switzer, Geneva, Ind.; a sister Eilene Hartley, Angola, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a grandchild.
A homemaker, she worked 36 years as an Avon representative. She was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, Venedocia, and a 1950 graduate of Jefferson Township High School near Berne, Ind.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Wendy Pratt officiating. Burial is at the Goodwin Cemetery near Elgin.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville and one hour prior to service at the church.
Contributions can be made to the Venedocia Lions Club.
