The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Alice Gaus
Alice Mary Gaus, 97, formerly of 931 Hemlock St., Celina, died at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22, 2009, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born Feb. 2, 1911, in Lima, to Alphus and Mary Margaret Simons McPheron. On Oct. 7, 1939, she married Clarence W. Gaus, who died Aug. 14, 1957.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry, Columbus, and John (Betty), Noblesville, Ind.; a daughter, Joyce (Robert) Linn, Celina; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Eugene, Leo, Allen and Jim McPheron; four sisters, Valera Graham, Alberta O' Neill, Bea Folley and Leanne Delhey; and a daughter-in-law, Kay Gaus.
She had retired from nursing after 50 years, having worked as an industrial nurse at Mersman Brothers, Celina, and a nurse at Celina Manor. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and its Altar Rosary Sodality. She was also a founder of the church's Ladies Choir. She received honorable mention as a volunteer at Mercer County Council on Aging for taking blood pressure for several years. She received her nursing degree from St. Rita's School of Nursing, Lima.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial is at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lima.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday and before 10 a.m. Monday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home.
