The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Melvin Bergman
Melvin Bergman, 82, Fort Recovery, died Aug. 28, 2012, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born May 17, 1930, in St. Henry to Harry and Pauline Albers Bergman. On Aug. 2, 1952, he married Emerita Frantz, who died March 24, 1994. On Aug. 16, 1996, he married Peg Livingston Roessner, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Linda (Mike) Schwieterman, Arcanum, Peg (Bill) Werling, Coldwater, Carol Bergman, St. Henry, Charmaine (Don) Klosterman, Coldwater, and Diane (Dale) Roessner, Coldwater; a son, Ted (Barb) Bergman, Fort Recovery; a stepdaughter, Deb (Rick) Faller, Roswell, Ga.; three stepsons, Bob (Cindy) Roessner, Mike (Sharon) Roessner and Dave (Janet) Roessner, all of Fort Recovery; two sisters, Margie Vogel, Coldwater, and Elsie (Roscoe) Timmerman, Fort Recovery; two brothers, Jack (Jean) Bergman, St. Henry, and Floyd (Joan) Bergman, Fort Recovery; 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Kathryn Bergman and Mercedes Bergman, both of Fort Recovery, Pat (Jerry) Bruggeman, Greenville, and Janet Ingman, Portland, Ind.; three brothers-in-law, Norb (Jackie) Frantz, Union City, Ind., Clete Bettinger, Coldwater, and Ed Livingston, Indian Lake.
Deceased are four brothers, Ralph, Bob, Walter and Lavern Bergman; two sisters, Ruth Finch and Betty Jean Brockman; and in-laws, Mary Bergman, Dr. Robert Finch, Lucille Bergman, Cy Brockman Sr., Norb Vogel, Martha and Ted Kunkler, Millie Lee and Norma Bettinger.
A 1948 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, he served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired farmer and had worked as a meatcutter for VonderHaars. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Men's Society, the Fort Recovery American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Fort Recovery Gun Club.
A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, St. Joe. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and from 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. The Knights of Columbus will have a prayer service at 7:50 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
