The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Opal Howell
Opal Jennie Howell, 92, Mendon, passed away Sept. 24, 2013, in the emergency room at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Center Township, to Denver and Mary (Bachar) Pond. On March 7, 1942, she married Norval "Louie" Howell, who died Nov. 29, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Dean (Barb) Howell of Celina and Robert (Kathy) Howell of Canton; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth (Jack) Frysinger of Van Wert, Ruby Bollenbacher of Celina and Betty Whitling of Spencerville; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Reinhart of Celina.
Preceding her in death were four siblings, Carl (Sylvia) Pond, Wayne Pond, Kathryn (Dale) Fisher, and an infant sister; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Bollenbacher and Jack Whitling; and two stepbrothers, Johnny (Dorothy) Miller and Kenneth Miller.
A homemaker, she had also worked at Mersman Tables in Celina. She was a member of the Mendon United Methodist Church.
An excellent cook and baker, she was known for her wonderful pies. She also enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles.
Funeral Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Mendon United Methodist Church, the Rev. Don Clinger officiating. Burial is at Mendon Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon, and an hour before services on Saturday at the church.
Memorial donations may be given to Mendon United Methodist Church.
