The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality. Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories. It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes. CELINA - Kyle Gerlach, appointed the new head of the county emergency medical services department in late August, said he's adjusting well as he familiarizes himself with the agency's operations and personnel.
Previously having worked for a private ambulance service in Darke County, Gerlach of Coldwater took over as EMS director on Sept. 6, replacing Matt Nietfeld, who resigned July 1. He updated county commissioners last week about EMS' direction and proposed budget for next year. [More]

ST. MARYS - City finance committee members on Monday approved the proposed $56.7 million appropriations budget for 2017 and will send it to council for consideration.
FORT RECOVERY - The village will apply for a $268,000 grant to help pay for the William Street reconstruction project.
Village administrator Randy Diller said the Ohio Public Works Commission grant would cover just more than half of the $400,000 project. Work likely will begin in late summer.
