The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Melvin Reier
Melvin W. Reier, 78, Portland, Indiana, died on July 20, 2017, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Indiana.
He was born March 30, 1939, in Portland, IN, to the late Lawrence and Marie (Siefring) Reier. On October 16, 1971, he married the late Phyllis (Hart) Reier, who died December 9, 2016.
Surviving are five children, Janet (Aaron) Loyd of Portland, IN, Joe (Karla) Reier of Portland, IN, Joanna (John) Lehner of Indianapolis, IN, Sharon (Bronson) Hunt of Portland, IN and John (Kim) Reier of Indianapolis, IN; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Jean (Vince) Fortkamp of Fort Recovery, OH, Merdella (Joe) Nietfeld of St. Henry, OH and Viola Braun of Coldwater, OH; and in-laws, Robert (Carol) Hart of Fort Recovery, OH and Mary (Larry) Day of Fort Recovery, OH.
Preceding him in death are an infant daughter, Jennifer; brother, Lavern Reier; sister, Loudonna (Richard) Timmerman and brother-in-law, Shorty Braun.
Melvin served in the Indiana National Guard and retired from farming. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3324, Fort Recovery and Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery.
He will be remembered by his amusing dry sense of humor and meeting with friends for morning coffee at a local Fort Recovery restaurant. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, with Fr. Ned Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling is 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday and 9:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will be held 7:45 pm Monday at the funeral Home
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus Building Fund..
