The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Ruth Schwieterman
Ruth Schwieterman, age 91, of rural Portland passed away Thursday evening December 27, 2018 in Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk.
Born in Mercer County, Ohio on March 29, 1927 she was the daughter of Aloys and Loretta (Jutte) Braun. She was married July 12, 1947 to Harold G. Schwieterman and he died April 8, 2013. She was a homemaker and had worked at Jay Garment and Buckeye Apparel in Coldwater. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, member of Portland Moose Lodge and Ft. Recovery High School graduate.
Surviving are four sons Daniel Schwieterman (wife Shelly) of Pleasant City, Ohio, Steven Schwieterman of Austin, TX., Kenneth Schwieterman (wife Erin) of Ridgeville and Harold Schwieterman of Indianapolis, three daughters Connie Lingo (husband Ron) of Portland, Rosann Miller (husband Chris) of Muncie and Lori Gibson (partner Deon Walker) of Portland, one brother Paul Braun (wife Marilyn) of Ft. Recovery, Ohio and one sister Cleo Sudhoff of Coldwater, Ohio, Twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by children Ronnie and Bonnie.
Funeral services will be Saturday January 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Fr. Robert Moran presiding.   
Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ft. Recovery.
Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM.
Memorials can be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland or State of the Heart Hospice.
