The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Verlina Ahrens
Verlina M. Ahrens, age 88 of Coldwater (formerly Osgood), died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater.
She was born September 7, 1930 in Coldwater to the late Arthur & Agnes (Henke) Knapke. On October 15, 1949 she married Ervin E. Ahrens and he died December 31, 2018.
She is survived by her children, Rick & Roxann Ahrens of St. Sebastian, Ken & Sue Ahrens of Coldwater, Kathy Hartke of St. Henry and Don & Alice Ahrens of Coldwater; twelve grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; siblings and in-laws, Doris Ann Brunswick of St. Henry and Mary Knapke of Coldwater, Bob Ahrens of California, and Irmie Wendeln of Sidney.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law Bill Hartke; two granddaughters Lisa & Laura; a brother Bud Knapke; and in-laws, Velma & Al Davis, Ginny Ahrens, Evie & Jerry Smith, Leo Wendeln, and Duke Brunswick.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, where she was a lector for many years, the church funeral choir and the Maria Stein Knights of St. John Auxiliary. Verlina volunteered at Community Hospital in Coldwater and worked at the former Sowar's Department store in Coldwater as a seamstress. She always enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting and making snicker doodles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, March 18, 2019 at St. Nicholas Church with Fr. David Zink, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Martin Cemetery, Osgood.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, March 17, and 9:00 to 9:45 am Monday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Memorials may be made to the Briarwood Activity fund or State of the Heart Care.
