The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Carroll Abels
Carroll D. Abels, age 82, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, died August 1, 2020 at the Kobacker House, Columbus, OH. He was born January 25, 1938, in Celina, to the late Urban and Mary (Braun) Abels. On May 18, 1963, he married Marlene (Post) Abels, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Linda Dilworth of Fort Recovery, Darlene & Rick Sudhoff of Coldwater and Dan Abels & Joe Angeles of San Francisco, CA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Delores Nieport of St. Henry, Joan Neargarder of Versailles and Paul & Roberta Abels of St. Henry; sisters-in-law, Dolores Abels of Coldwater, Dolores Schmitz of Coldwater and Nancy Abels of Fort Recovery, OH; and in-laws, Luke & Barb Broering of St. Henry and John & Dorothy Guggenbiller of St. Henry.
Preceding him in death are siblings, Elmer Abels, Ralph Abels, Walter & Marceil Abels, Eugene Abels, Jim Abels, and Mary Jane & David Larger; brothers-in-law, Anthony Nieport & Marion Neargarder; and an in-law, John Post.
Carroll worked at the former Mersman Brothers and then retired from Cooper Farms, Fort Recovery. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg and their Men's Society. He was also a member of the Progressive Sportsman Club, Fort Recovery. Carroll loved working on small engines and various projects in his shop. He also loved the companionship he received from his family's pug dogs but his family was his true pride and joy. He loved spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, with Fr. Ned Brown as celebrant. A live stream of the Mass will be available at www.fortrecoverycatholics.org/streamspot/. Social distancing will be observed at the funeral home and church and masks are encouraged. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
Calling is 3:00 pm-7:00 pm Tuesday and 9:00 am-10:00 am Wednesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. Contributions can be made to State of the Heart Care, 1350 N. Broadway St., Greenville, Ohio 45331.
