The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Board willing to address policy with teachers

CELINA - School board members said they're willing to discuss with teachers and classified staff a recently enacted position to no longer grant unpaid leave requests except for reasons of illness or disability.
A large throng of teachers attended the regular school board meeting on Monday night in response to a statement board members issued on last month's board agenda and a related story published in The Daily Standard on May 17. [More]

Council discussed potential threats
NEW BREMEN - Village council members on Monday discussed if it would be feasible and sensible to protect the village's emergency vehicles from a hypothetical electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack.
ST. MARYS - City councilors on Monday evening heard first reading of an ordinance to award a contract to make repairs at the LOC Performance electrical substation without taking bids.
ST. HENRY - Village councilors on Monday night read a resolution declaring an election necessary to approve a 0.5-% increase to the existing 1% village income tax.
