The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Kay Ann Hansel
Kay Ann Hansel, age 64, of Mendon, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing at Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born May 6, 1961, in Celina, to the late Claude Eugene and Leona Christine (Harjehausen) Hansel. Her father passed away June 1, 1998 and her mother on Jan. 28, 2011.
Kay is survived by her brother and sister, Tim Hansel (Kathy Anderson) of Celina and Nancy (Darrell) Etgen of Mendon, nieces and nephews Claudia (Brandon) McGillvary of Mendon, Bryon (Amber) Hansel of Lyons, OH, Aaron Hansel of St. Marys, and Jihan (Kyle) Grunden of Mendon, and 13 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Joshua David Etgen, on Dec. 16, 2020.
Kay graduated with the Mendon-Union High School Class of 1979. She retired from Celina Insurance Group after 45 years of service with the company. She was a member of the Mendon First Church of God and attended Mt. Tabor Church of God, Celina.
Kay enjoyed reading and was an avid fan of old movies. She enjoyed cooking and baking, her specialties were making peanut brittle, and chocolate loaves. Most of all, Kay enjoyed spending time with her family.
Calling Hours will be held from 10:00 AM to Noon, Wednesday, March 25, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral Services will follow at Noon, with Pastor Darwin Dunten, officiating. Burial will take place at Mendon Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing at Shane Hill for their wonderful care of Kay.
