The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Irene Jarvis
Irene L. (Berg) Jarvis, age 91, passed away on the evening of November 2, 2016. She had been a resident of Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen for 10 months.
She was the daughter of the late Egon and Clara (Knatz) Berg Sr. She was married to James A. Jarvis for 34 years, before he passed away on October 5, 1985.
She is survived by her only child David James Jarvis and his wife Kabeth, of New Bremen. She also is survived by her two grandchildren, Sara Beth Bailin and her husband Bryan of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her granddaughter Claire Elise Jarvis of New Bremen. She had two brothers, Egon Berg Jr. and Eldon Berg, both deceased, and two sisters, Betty (Ferd) Link of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Joan C. (Russell) Clay of Naples, Florida, also deceased.
She graduated from Blume High School in Wapakoneta, Ohio in 1943. After graduating from high school, she then started to work at the City Loan and Savings in Lima, Ohio for 15 years. She then moved to New Bremen with her husband James and worked for the New Bremen School System for 23 years as treasurer, before retiring in 1991.
After retiring she volunteered at the New Bremen High School and Elementary School libraries. She also volunteered at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in the medical records department for many years. She also became a board member of the Auglaize County Educational Service Center for 16 years and retired from that at the end of 2007.
She belonged to St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, and was on the Stewardship board where she served as treasurer. She also volunteered on the Funeral Luncheon committee, and was a member of the Busy 12.
She will be remembered for being a loving mother, and grandmother to her two granddaughters. She enjoyed watching them when they were very young, and also enjoyed picking them up each day promptly from elementary school. She will be remembered for doing whatever she could for her son, his wife, and her grandchildren.
She was wonderful baker of cookies and delicious pies, in addition to her expertise in the financial field. She loved taking walks, and enjoyed being outside doing whatever she could with mowing her yard and working in her garden.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen at 10:30 am with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating, with graveside services to follow at the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the St. Paul United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
