The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Richard Black
Former New Bremen resident, Richard E. Black, 84, died at 3:58 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
He was born May 15, 1924, in Hobbs, Ind., to Ray and Bly Botkins Black. On April 19, 1947, he married Shirley Fogt, who died Jan. 8, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Jeffery (Cheryl) Black of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Christine (Robert) Werst, Atlanta, Ga., and Pam (Paul) Phlipot, Minster; a brother, Steve (Bev), St. Marys; and five grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Kent; and a sister, Beverly Schnelle.
He worked for 40 years at the former Stamco Machine and Tool Company, New Bremen, where he served as chief engineer and then as head of purchasing and production control. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, and a 1942 graduate of New Bremen High School. He was a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, the Rev. Stephen Wills officiating. Burial is at the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
